On Getting High
Where are you trying to go?
It is possible to get high on anything. You can get high on a drug of course- you can get high on a meal, on a conversation, on yourself, on your own holiness.
We are inundated with opportunities to trip out from “where” we “are”. But we are presented with too few chances to examine why we step outside of ourselves.
It’s a chance to feel different, it’s a chance to slow things down, speed things up, make real scenarios we feel can’t happen (or are too far away for our patience). These are solid reasons to get high, because getting high does those things well. Here comes the meditation- hold in your mind what you get high for and ask yourself-
What can a joint do better than a walk?
How can a beer be better than taking a breath?
What does the world look like if I put myself in the backseat?
It’s not a comparison of efficacy, it is a consideration of impact.
What do you want to miss?
What do you want to turn the volume up on?
What do you want more of?
What’s the best way to get what you want?
