It is very cool that you are going to be bringing something somewhere to try something new and dye it shades of blue.
I’d like to share some cool things to think about as you prepare for the dye party.
What should I bring?
Two small items ( size examples: hat, t-shirt) or one larger item ( size examples: pants, hoody). Its really about the size of the item/how much water (thus dye) it will suck up. So a small item could be socks, it could be a handkerchief, shoes- you get it. Same principles go for bringing one large item.
Another consideration is whats the item made of? Cotton works best, Indigo shows up the most on natural or white cotton- but that doesnt mean you can’t get weird and bring something made of yellow nylon and see what happens.
What will I do at the dye party?
Ok so you’ll have your stuff, we’ll chat and I’ll point you to a station where you can bind up your items (creating designs). When you’re done preparing your items, you’ll take them to the dye station where we’ll talk about what you’re working with and how it should be dyed. After dyeing, your item will be set aside to cure before you take it home.
Do I have a design in mind?
Cool contemplation. Sometimes dyeing is cool because you can hide something in blue. Sometimes dyeing is cool because you can make something super ornate, delicate, other times its really fun to hold an item in your hand, twist it all wild and see what happens.
The truth is whichever approach is going to be the most satisfying for you is the best. Once it hits the dye its out of our hands, it will be what it will be, most likely something beautiful.
I have a tote bag that could be cool to dye should i bring?
Yes most definitely. I’ve dyed a tote bag and its one of my favorite items.
Should I bring a waterproof way to transport my items?
Most definitely! Your stuff may not dry by the time you’re done hanging out so bring a way to get it home without spreading dye to ALL your stuff. Then read this article about what to do with your stuff post dyeing.
